War
Flip, battle, and collect every card.
War is the ultimate beginner card game — no decisions required. Both players flip their top card simultaneously; the higher card wins the pile. Ties trigger a dramatic "war" that raises the stakes. A game of pure chance that's endlessly tense.

🃏 War Setup & Rules
- Use a standard 52-card deck. Aces are high.
- Split the deck evenly — 26 cards each, held face-down.
▶ How to Play War
- Both players simultaneously flip their top card to the centre.
- The higher card wins both cards; the winner places them at the bottom of their stack.
- TIE (War): each player places 3 cards face-down, then flips 1 face-up. Highest wins ALL cards on the table.
- If a war tie occurs again, repeat the war process.
- The player who accumulates all 52 cards wins.

📖 Detailed Guide
Setting up the game
- War is strictly a two-player game. The full 52-card deck is split evenly, giving each player a face-down pile of 26 cards.
- You never choose anything in War — the entire game is decided by the order of the cards, which is what makes it a good first card game for children.
- Aces are high and suits are irrelevant. Only rank decides a battle.
- Cards you win go to the bottom of your pile, so the deck slowly cycles as the game runs.
Fighting a battle
- Both players flip the top card of their pile at the same time. This is a battle.
- The higher rank wins and takes both cards. Play then continues with the next battle.
- Because every card eventually comes back around, a run of bad luck early is rarely fatal.
- A game is capped at 500 battles, so a deck that keeps cycling without a winner is stopped rather than running forever.
Going to war
- When both flipped cards are the same rank, the battle is a tie and the game goes to war.
- Each player commits three cards face-down as the stake, then flips one more card face-up.
- The higher of those face-up cards wins everything on the table — both original cards, all six face-down stakes, and the two deciding cards.
- If the deciding cards tie again, another war starts on top of the first, so a single war can swing ten or more cards at once.
Winning
- You win by capturing all 52 cards, leaving your opponent with nothing to flip.
- If a player runs out of cards partway through a war, they cannot complete the stake and lose the game.
- If the battle cap is reached first, the player holding more cards at that point is ahead.
- There is no strategy to apply — the interest is entirely in the swings, and wars are where they happen.
📊 War Scoring
Player who captures all cards wins. For timed play, most cards after a set number of rounds wins.
